Depression Symptoms, Causes, Medications and therapy                     


Depression is a Kind of illness to the mind. A Person is said to be feeling depressed he/she is engulfed with sudden feelings Depressed When he/she is engulfed With SUDDEN feelings of sadness, Helplessness, Guilt and hopelessness’ The mood changes naturally, and also affects the Physical and mental states of mind. Depression mainly affects his/her relationship with his friends, family, co-workers.

Cause of Depression from   Ayurveda perspective:
From Stand Point of Ayurveda There are 2 main causes of depression.
     An imbalance in 3 doshas, - vata, pitta, kapha.
     A lack of awareness of one’s deepet, inner self.
Most Depression is a Kapha imbalance that is the culmination of vata and then pitta going out of balance .initially the brain electrochemistry has an erratic overreaction vata imbalance which triggers a loss of enzymatic activity in the metabolism (pitta imbalance) Kapha responds by trying to glue everything down, bringing about Heaviness, Darkness, and stagnation that the mind-body interprets as the negative message of hopelessness and Depression. In Other Words, because of Specific ethological factor, vata from colon, pitta from intestine, kapha from stomach enters the general circulation and Lodges in the nervous Systems, interferences with normal functioning of the mind and nervous Systems, and causes Depression.
·         How TO Tell if Your Depression is due to VATA IMBALANCE:
·         Skin cold to touch, may even experience shivering
·         Poor appetite, Loss of Weight
·         Digestive problem, constipation
·         Super-sensitive
·         Anxious
·         Can’t sleep
·         Excessive talking about nothing and everything
·         Fearful
·         Restlessness, cannot sit still
·         Frequent urination.
Factors that Contribute to Vata depression is very important than other two:
a       Over activity
     Irregular hours
c        Exposure to cold or wind autumn and winter season
d       Staying up late
     Excessive consumption of caffeine
f)       Too much sex or frequent masturbation
How to tell if your Depression is due to PITTA IMBALANCE:
·         Feels hot, sensitive to heat
·         Skin reddish &may feel hot to touch
·         Desire to eat sweats, gee, creamy desserts
·         Irritable and easily angered
·         Hair fall or turning grey
·         Ulcers or feeling burning sensation in stomach
·         Diarrhea
·         Redness in eyes

How to tell if your depression is due to KAPHA IMBALANCE:

·         Overeating
·         Tendency to occur in winter or spring months
·         Low energy
·         Paleness of skin
·         Oversleeping
·         Feeling cold
·         Loss of ability to experience pleasure
Some people may feel depression in particular season while some may feel it only after a particular traumatic happening in life, whatever may be the reason, it is necessary to treat depression before it drowns the person completely .Ayurveda is blessed is with many herbs that we do not need to go far in order to find something that will help in uplifting our moods viz: bramli, jata  masji etc.

In addition to mentioned herbs, yoga is a great Ayurvedic treatment for depression. People who do pranayama and yoga regularly may find that they are less susceptible to depression and feeling of hopelessness.

Sinus and allergy
(Pratisyaya & peenasam)
Allergy:
·          
      Individual sensitivity to a foreign substance that is usually harmless. These substances are called as allergens & antigen which is introduced in the immune system by a number of different routes.
·         An allergic reaction can occur almost anywhere in the body. The symptom of reaction often occurs at the site of reaction.
·         Inflammation of nasal passage caused by allergic reaction to air borne substance is known as allergic rhinitis.

Symptoms:
·          
     10-20 sneezing in rapid succession
·         Nasal discharge – watery, thin discharge
·         Consists of itching & lacrimation in eyes.
·         Purulent discharge
·         Hearing is decreased
·         Severe nasal congestion.

When this allergic rhinitis is neglected without treating it heads to sinusitis ( pratisyaya)

Sinus (pratisyaya):
·       
           Sinus is the empty space in between the nasal bones.
·         The inflammation in the sinus is called as sinusitis (pratisyaya)
·         Acc to ayurveda the fundamental principles of vata, pitta & kappa jointly & separately as well as of blood becoming aggravated by various causes bring on an attack of nasal catarrh ( pratisyaya).

Causes:
·      
           Exposure to minute particles of dust or smoke into nostrils
·         Excessive application of cold or heat
·         Voluntary retention of stool & urine
·         Day sleep, right awakening
·         Excessive indulgence in sexual intercourse
Are the causes which may instantly usher in an attack of pratisyaya.

Premonitary symptoms:
·     
            Heaviness of head
·         Sneezing
·         Aching in limbs
·         Appearance of goose – flesh upon the body
·         Hoarseness of voice
In ayurveda acc to dosha predominance symptoms have been explained.

Vataja             - harness of voice sense of stuffiness in nostrils dynes of throat,
  Palate , lips, excursive sneezing.
Pittaja            - hot & yellowish secretion from nose thirst & heated skin emaciation &
  Yellow ness of complexion
Kaphaja        - constant running of nose secretion being white & cold paleness &
   swelling   of yes. Heaviness of  head.
Tridoshaja    -spontaneous disappearance   as well as   appearance of pratisyaya.
Raktaja          - discharge of blood redness of eyes. Bruised pain chest seems as it
  Struck with a blow betide smell in breath & mouth.

Prognosis:
·     
             If neglected or not properly remedied at the outset of an attack, any type of pratisyaya may bring on cases of malignant peens a which it time gives rise to number of diseases & produce deafness, blindness & loss of smell.
·         Constant alternate sliminess & dryness as well as alternate contraction expansion of nostrils such a case is regarded as hard to cure.

Treatment:
·      
           Various sorts of emetics & fomentations (sveda) prescribed in pratisyaya except in fresh & acute cases.
·         The mucous found matured thick & pendant should be made to secrete by applying sirovireka ( head purgatives)
·         Acc to ayurveda we can give general treatment (sananya) & specific treatment (vishesha)
·         In general treatment langhana (fasting) is to be done for five days.
·         Under specific treatment we have
1.    Grithapana – medicated clarified butter
2.    Swedhana – hot fomentation
3.    Vamana – medicationemesics
4.    Avapida nasya – medicine inserted through
5.    Dumas pans – ayurvedic smoking
6.    Kavalla graham – garbling of salted water.
